odelling the propulsion system is a key component of precise CFD simulations in shipbuilding. In this video, we demonstrate how the Actuator Disk model in Fidelity Marine can be used to efficiently simulate realistic propeller-hull interactions.
The focus is on setting up a self-propulsion simulation in which the Actuator Disk is combined with an Open Water Curve (kT, kQ, J). This method enables a realistic representation of the propeller forces without having to fully resolve the propeller’s geometry. This significantly reduces computation time and the effort required for the simulation, whilst maintaining a high level of accuracy.
What to expect
The key steps are explained step by step – from downloading the DemoCases, through mesh generation and resistance setup, to configuring the body force options and integrating the open-water data. Finally, the video demonstrates how to evaluate the simulation and analyse the wake flow.
The video is aimed at both beginners and experienced Fidelity Fine Marine users. Thanks to the timestamps, individual topics can be accessed directly, making it a handy reference guide for future projects.
